For dog owners, everyday is dog loving day, but this Friday, August 26th, is National Dog Day. So, remember to smother canine family members with love, pampering and some fun.
National Dog Day celebrates all dogs, mixed breed and pure. Although many people use this day to show off their unique and fabulous dogs, it was started to help recognize the number of dogs in need of rescuing and acknowledge dogs that work selflessly to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.
Dogs put their lives on the line every day for protection, law enforcement, the disabled, our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage, now they’re detecting cancer and seizures things even humans cannot do.
The best way to celebrate National Dog Day is to show appreciation for the dogs that are already part of the family or to add a new furry family member by rescuing one of the many dogs or puppies ready to be adopted. “Rescuing a shelter dog is an amazing way to add unconditional love to your family as long as the proper preparations have been made,” said Dr. Kyoko Yoshida, co-owner and veterinarian at Hudson Animal Hospital in NYC’s Upper West Side.
